The Words of the Heart

Don't speak of needing me,

If something within you holds back,

For I'd rather hear the truth,

Than live in a lie with no real contract.

Don't say the words, if you don't mean it,

For it's not the words that count,

It's the intention behind them,

That turns the humblest words into a paramount.

I know that love is like a fire,

That it can burn so bright and strong,

But also can flicker and fade,

When the desire is not in the heart, but in the prolonged.

I'd rather hear your honesty,

Than a lie that will only hurt,

For the pain of false promises,

Can far outlast the relief they seem to exert.

So don't tell me you need me,

If you don't believe in us or yourself,

For words without truth or conviction,

Can only be placed on love's dusty shelf.

Instead, let your heart lead,

And speak your truth without fear,

For the truth may be hard at first,

But at least it's real, and that's sincere.

I pray that love will bind us,

And that our words will be true,

For with honesty and belief,

Our love will forever renew.

So don't tell me you need me,

If you don't believe it in your heart,

For sometimes the toughest thing to do,

Is to listen and go on without the initial start.
