A Promise of Love

I once wrote a song for a girl, a melody of passion and truth,

A song that was meant to move her heart, and light a fire in her youth,

I sang it to her as we talked on the phone, hoping she'd hear my heart,

But she was too busy talking, of the things that tore her apart.

She spoke of her flaws, and all her frailties,

Of the things she wished she could change, and all her insecurities,

And I tried to tell her, that she was beautiful in every way,

That her freckles were constellations, and her eyes held all the sway.

But still, she wouldn't hear me, her mind caught in a storm,

Of doubts and fears, that made her feel alone and forlorn,

And as we hung up, she whispered of her fear, of never being loved,

And I told her, with all my heart, that she was loved, from high above.

Every night, I wrote her songs, that spoke of her beauty and grace,

Of how the way she moved, lit up the darkest place,

I sang of how her soul shone bright, in the face of adversity,

And how her strength and resilience, were an endless source of diversity.

And so, I put all those songs together, and mailed her my mixtape,

Told her, that I'll be singing for her every night, down at the Broken Hearts Club,

And as the years went by, she grew bold, her insecurities gone,

She showed up, with her messy hair, and freckles, and no makeup on.

And she told me, with a gleam in her eyes, that she loved me more and more,

And she kissed me, with a fierce intensity, that made my heart soar,

And ever since then, I promised her, that I would never let her go,

For she was my love, and I was hers, in each other we found our glow.

So let the music play on, and the love story unfold,

As our hearts beat in perfect rhythm, and our love story is told,

For we found each other, in the midst of chaos and pain,

And together we'll weather all the storms, until love reigns again.
